The Gilmore Hotel was very uncomfortable due to the steam heat , which was on constantly with no regulation. The room was very hot all of the time, the only regulation was to open the windows. Historic feel in the Gilmore, old.

Stayed at the Gilmore on the way to Wrangell Is. for a few days. Stairs, stairs, stairs & lot’s of em’. If you have luggage I hope your in shape no bell hop here. The lack of an elevator is a factor. I arived at the hotel only to find that I had 3 large suitcases which I had to pack up the 3 flights of stairs myself. i also requested a smoking room which they overlooked on my booking so I had to walk up & down 3 flights of stairs to smoke. From Ketchikan International Airport: Take the Ketchikan International Airport Ferry. From the ferry exit, turn right onto Tongass Ave./AK-7. Proceed on AK-7 for 2 miles. Drive straight and get on Front Street.
