No elevator, no air, community kitchen so strange mix of food smells wafted throughout this old, decrepit "historic" hotel. a pretty good deal

neat old building and a pretty good deal. rooms were ok, not fantastic. tv, not that we watched it much, was in the upper corner of the room on the same side as the headboard. almost impossible to watch. all in all, the service was acceptable, the room was clean, and the building had charector. ... Nice place to stay

My husband and I stayed one night at the Van Gilder in June 2005. We had a room on the third floor. Please note that this hotel does not have an elevator, so you need to be able to manage steps.
