There’s a hotel in Akihabara, an area in Tokyo, Japan, which has a train room where geeks can play with model trains.

The Train Room has an L-shaped train diorama with a railway that works its way around a replica of the Tokyo Tower.  The 32 metre long track can handle 4 lines at the same time and has two contollers so two people can play at the same time.

Even the floor-to-ceiling window offers a view of a real railway station. The Train Room costs 23,000 yen ($265) per night. The hotel has only this one train room on the 13th floor (no. 1304), and the room is booked solid for the next month, so apparently there’s no shortage of model train-loving geeks (densha otaku) in Japan.

Akihabara is famous for being an electronics district, where all kinds of new and used electronic parts and gizmos can be bought. The Akihabara Washington Hotel is part of the Washington Hotels chain, and recently reopened on May 15, 2010, after a 2-year renovation. The train room opened in June.

They offer everything from high-speed internet to individual airconditioning and a fridge, telephone, tv with video on demand, an electric pot, bath amenities, slippers and pajamas. Kids stay free but pets are not allowed. They provide laundry service and also exchange US currency.

The hotel also has a restaurant called Bonsalute Cafe that offers a breakfast buffet, organic vegetables and seafood.
