Buffet Hotel now has two meanings, with Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Beach Hotel scheduled for a mid to late June opening in Pensacola Beach, Fla.
The new $50 million, 162 room Gulf Coast hotel was initially set to be built in Hollywood, Fla., but is now being built on the site of a Holiday Inn in Pensacola Beach that was wrecked by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Hotel offerings include a pool bar, entertainment area and the Frank and Lola’s restaurant, named after the 1982 Buffett song ‘Frank and Lola’ about a couple on their second honeymoon in Pensacola. The restaurant will serve Parrotheads their daily dose of Cheeseburger in Paradise.
In addition to the pool bar, the entertainment area named Land Shark Landing will also have an outdoor bar.
Room rates will be seasonal, and vary from $195 to $450 per night. Margaritaville Hotel will also offer meeting space, a board room and full unobstructed views of the Gulf through large glass windows.
The hotel’s website isn’t really up and going yet, but if you can get through, they are taking reservation requests, with confirmation via a follow up phone call or email.
On a related note, Lucy ‘Lulu’ Buffett – Gulf Coast restaurant owner, cookbook author and Jimmy Buffett’s sister, took a moment to pen an open letter to Gulf Coast visitors, asking them not to be scared of the oil spill in the Gulf.
She says “I am asking all of you who love this area as much as I do and love your own coastal areas to please not abandon us.”
Jimmy Buffett’s first Margaritaville Hotel could definitely use a few more plugs like this, especially if the oil is still swirling around in the gulf and on beaches come June, when the hotel opens. But whether or not the oil swamps Pensacola Beach, Parrotheads are surely going to swamp the place once the hotel and restaurant opens.
