Comfort Suites Maingate East in Kissimmee Florida
I’ve been sending Disney vacationers to the Hilton Bonnet Creek for almost a year now, but I may have to switch my recommendation to the Comfort Suites Maingate East in Kissimmee, Florida. How do you go from a Hilton to a Comfort Suites? Over-deliver at a budget hotel.

Looking for inside tips on Orlando places to stay, play and eat? Become a fan of the UpTake Orlando Local Getaway Crew on Facebook! This week they’re talking about Orlando hotels that are great vacation destinations for locals.
When I travel, a fancy hotel is pretty low on my list of things to spend money on. I want a clean, cheap hotel in a convenient location. I don’t plan on spending much time in the room, after all.
But sometimes it’s nice to get away from your own kitchen and piles of laundry and enjoy a mini-vacation at a local hotel. Whether it’s a weekend alone, a romantic getaway with my husband, or a family vacation with the kids, a visit to a great local hotel can often provide the same fun and relaxation of a trip to another city without the cost of gas or air fare.
Here are a few ideas for Orlando hotels that make great local vacation destinations!
3 Orlando Hotels That Make Great Vacation Destinations
1. CoCo Key Water Resort
This hotel is best visited on a warm weekend when you can enjoy the pools, water slides and massive bucket dump!
2. Gaylord Palms Resort

It’s true that I have a little bit of an obsession with this hotel. I love it to bits and pieces. Friends of ours recently spent the weekend in the executive suites here and I am more than a little bit jealous.
3. Nickelodeon Suites
To be honest, the idea of spending a weekend here gives me a headache – but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make on occasion for my kids.
Do you ever take a mini-vacation in a local hotel just to get away from day-to-day life? What’s your favorite Orlando hotel to actually spend time at?

Holiday Inn - not exactly home for the holidays
There was a moment when I wondered if this was such a good idea.
The empty dining room felt lonely rather than private and we missed the jostling and shoving that comes from trying to fit too many people at a too small table. It was odd to place an order instead of spending an entire day juggling cooking times and oven space. As we waited for a woman we’d never met before to bring us our plates full of turkey and stuffing, we didn’t feel adventurous. I worried that my family holiday vacation was a sad substitute for a family Thanksgiving feast at home.

The Exterior of the Adventure Suites
I’ve vacationed in North Conway dozens of times – from trips with my family when I was a child to getaways with my husband to family vacations with my own children. A few years ago, we watched the construction of the Adventure Suites with curiosity. What exactly were they building? Would it be family-friendly, or more appropriate for couples?
This past weekend, my husband and I visited North Conway, and saw a “Take a Tour” sign outside. So, we did just that!
The Adventure Suites offers seventeen unique and completely different suites. Some are kid-friendly, some are more romantic, but they are all incredibly detailed.
During our tour, we had the chance to see two of the suites in depth (we peeked into another one). The first we saw was the Cave, which has a huge hot tub, rainfall shower, and fun little hideaways for the kids. My kids would especially love the sleeping nook – it’s so unique and fun. We also saw the Show Time suite, which looks just like an old-fashioned movie theater. There’s a ten foot projection screen, popcorn maker, wet bar with fridge, and elevated bath room. The room sleeps six.
Other suites include tree house, jungle, NY City Penthouse, and Love Shack. We were so impressed with how amazingly detailed these suites are and can’t wait to visit.
