The Charles Hotel in the Evening

In honor of Earth Day 2011, The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA is launching several eco-friendly guest initiatives.  In addition to offering a Down to Earth Green Hotel package, they are providing green tips of the day for their Twitter and Facebook followers.  These new green initiatives are in addition to all of the green programs that The Charles Hotel is already known for. For example, The Charles Hotel currently utilizes a guestroom green program, recycles, composts, uses environmentally-friendly products and offers a complimentary tire inflation station within its parking garage. In 2010 these initiatives resulted in the equivalent of 1,137 adult trees saved; 2,148 cubic yards of landfill space saved; 1,414,237 kilowatts of electricity or 883 barrels of oil saved; and 145 metric tons of carbon emissions avoided.  For Earth Day 2010, The Charles Hotel lowered the temperature of hotel rooms and public spaces by one degree and they plan to do the same for Earth Day 2011.

The Down to Earth package, available through June 30, 2011, includes the following:

  • Overnight accommodations in a deluxe guestroom at The Charles Hotel
  • A signed copy of Chef Peter Davis’ (chef at Henrietta’s Table) cookbook, Fresh & Honest
  • Use of the Hotel Bike Program, including a helmet, map of the city, lock and key
  • Breakfast in bed provided by room service or at Henrietta’s Table (excludes Saturday/Sunday brunch)

The Down to Earth Package starts at $299 per room, per night, based on double occupancy, not including taxes and gratuity.
