Excalibur Castle - fit for a king?

Like most hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, the Excalibur Hotel and Casino is a heavily themed hotel.  This south Strip property is, you guessed it, a castle.  But is it fit for a king?

Excalibur Las Vegas

As a wannabe princess, the idea of spending a night or two in a castle has always appealed to me.  I finally had the opportunity on a recent trip to Las Vegas.  Thankfully, I left my ball gowns, glass slippers and royal expectations at home.

I booked a room at the Excalibur because it was cheap and conveniently located near the Mandalay Bay where I was attending a conference.  I was able to get to and from the convention center by tram for free and was able to easily walk to many other of my favorite Las Vegas attractions.  As for the hotel itself?

At an average rate of $80 a night for a Thursday to Monday stay, I got my money’s worth.  The Excalibur was basically a three-star hotel inside an elaborate building.  My room had a shower but no tub (which was fine), wired internet, and no coffee pot (which is a personal pet peeve of mine – just give me a cup of coffee!)  However, I was able to get a $3 cup of coffee right outside the elevator doors on the casino floor.  The towels were scratchy, but the beds were comfortable.

Overall, my socks weren’t knocked off by the Excalibur, but I was satisfied with what I got for what I paid: a cheap hotel in a good location on the Vegas strip.
