When you get away to the Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley for a long escape, the first thing you think of is usually wine. The second thing? Relaxation. That’s exactly what you get with a stay at the Gaige House in Glen Ellen, Calif.
The 23-room hotel is decorated in a luxurious Asian-inspired style, and rooms include TVs, Wi-Fi, private bathrooms and telephones with voicemail. The 10 Gaige House rooms are located within the original Queen Anne-style building, dating from 1900. There are eight Zen Suites scattered throughout the grounds, as well as two specialty suites and several studio suites on the property. Rates start at $179 and vary, depending on type of room and season.
If you’re not looking, it’s easy to pass this place up on a quick drive through town. From the street view, it’s a beautiful old home. Once you investigate, the grounds seem to go on forever, just behind the Gaige House. Sprawling gardens and a swimming pool dominate the view, but walk a little farther and grab a chair to lounge in at the edge of Calabazas Creek. After a day of touring wineries, this is the perfect place to unwind.
Another way to help you unwind is the spa at the Gaige House. Pick your favorite spot—whether it’s your room, the spa loft, next to the creek, or in the Zen garden—and get a long massage to really relax. This month, take advantage of the 50 Minutes of Bliss special: a 50-minute massage for $99 (regularly priced at $120). You deserve it, don’t you think?
Even if you don’t hit the wineries, the Gaige House is a great excuse for a romantic weekend.
