We’re planning a trip to Charleston, South Carolina this summer (yes, we know it will be hot!), and we’ve been looking for some hotels in the Historic District, even though they will definitely be more expensive than hotels we’ll find a little father out of town. Can’t help it though! The pictures I’ve seen of downtown Charleston are so incredibly cute, and it’d be great to be close to all the bars, restaurants, tours, etc. So far, we’ve identified the following hotels – what do you think?
Ok, so this place is really expenive. But, if we split the room with one other couple, it won’t be TOO bad, at least not for 2 nights. And, it’s smack in the middle of Charleston’s Historic District! The hotel has its own restaurant too, which looks great. We’ll keep this one on the radar, at least.
If we decide we want to go super cheap, we might decide to book here. Really basic rooms, but in the Historic District. This would be fine for 1-2 nights I’d think. Just clean, simply lodging about 10 blocks from downtown. And, it looks like you can park your car here, which is a huge plus…
A little bit of an upgrade from the Days Inn (at least it looks like it). Good reviews – clean, simple rooms that are close to downtown.
So there you have it! When we actually pick a hotel, I’ll write another blog detailing our experience. Wish us good times and luck!

If you like the beach I recommend a rental on Isle of Palms or one of the other islands near Charleston. It will definitely be hot during the day, so you could enjoy the beach and swim during the day and drive into Charleston during the cooler mornings & evenings to enjoy all it has to offer. The aquarium is nice, too…

[...] The Spoleto Festival in Charleston in all seriousness, is literally comparable to the Olympics. 17 days long, with multiple events everyday and both opening and closing ceremonies, this is what the city of Charleston looks forward to every year. It not only celebrates the genius of art, music and theater, but it celebrates the charm and history that makes Charleston such a unique city. So how do you fit it all in? Well just like you don’t go to everyday and every event of the Olympics, you’re not going to every event at this Charleston festival. I recommend picking a weekend and giving 3-4 days to getting a full experience. I’ll go ahead and tell you that since it starts on Memorial Day weekend on May 28th, that it will be the busiest weekend of the festival, and therefore the toughest to reserve Charleston accommodations.
