What’s better than a long weekend wine escape in Paso Robles? Staying in luxury at Hotel Cheval while you’re there. Pack your bags, because even the family dog is welcome at this boutique hotel just off the town square.
The 16-room hotel is decorated in a contemporary style, and rooms feature California king beds, down comforters and pillows, spa robes, in-room coffee and tea service, complimentary Wi-Fi, LCD flat-screen TVs and CD/MP3 players. Some rooms have bathtubs, fireplaces, or outdoor patios, so if you have something specific in mind, be sure to ask. Fresh welcome cookies and complimentary breakfast are included in your stay. Rates start at $225.
You don’t have to leave your pooch at home, because he’s welcome at Hotel Cheval for an additional charge of $30 per day. Dog guests get a welcome treat, and the use of plush pet beds, as well as food and water bowls. The hotel grounds are perfect for lounging with your buddy: With ample outdoor patio space, as well as two wood-burning fireplaces, you can hang out and relax between wine tasting trips or merely exploring town.
In-room spa services are available, from a hot-stone massage to body treatments to facials. In the evening, you can get a glass of wine at the Pony Club before you venture out to taste the best of Paso Robles. My favorite is Il Cortile Ristorante; be sure to make reservations!
Don’t rush your stay here. It’s ideal for a long getaway, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be sad when you leave.
