In response to our last post on weird hotels around the world, we got a few suggestions we thought we should include.
Jacob, who runs the excellent blog The Hostel Witness, tipped us on the Crazy House in Dalat, Vietnam. Formally known as Hang Nga Guesthouse, the off-kilter design earned it the nickname “Crazy House” among locals. Image courtesy of Du Tran.
Flemming Mahler suggests Desert Cave Hotel in Australia, set underground amid the sandstone opal mines of the Outback. Hotel amenities include the world’s only underground bar and gaming room.
Kat recommended the Ottawa Jail Hostel, a Victorian-era prison that now throws open the doors to backpackers from around the world. You sleep in an old jail cell or–even creepier in my book–the prison hospital.
Thanks for your comments, and let us know if there are more weird hotels we should add.
