Joie de Vivre is working on polishing an undiscovered oceanfront gem in Laguna Beach, CA - The former Vacation Village, now known as the Pacific Edge Hotel.

The 132 room hotel with 28 suites and 104 rooms is in the final stages of a renovation which makes the hotel less of a Myrtle Beach type family hotel and more of a quirky surfer paradise in tune with the Laguna Beach spirit.
JDV has a tendency to find low-key properties like this and remodel it with a lively spirit and theme that reflects the location and the culture – which in this case means a retro-chic feel with a lot of colorful art and a surf lounge. The rooms are modeled to look like a casual beach home, with edgy art and pop-style furnishings.
CEO Chip Conley explains that “This hotel has that Cinderella story line. It’s a humble family hotel being transformed into a fun, approachable, and authentically local Laguna Beach hotel.”
Revovations aside, the hotel’s main assets are still the oceanfront location and the direct access that the rooms spread over 8 buildings offer to the beach. If all this seems more motelish than like a new and expensive hotel, that’s because the Cinderella makeover that Conley mentions is still a work in progress.
The full ‘hip’ factor of the JDV makeover will be unleashed later in the Fall when the 3,000 square foot open-air beachfront deck opens with fire pits, cocktails and a food menu, along with five surf-themed cabanas with private concierge service.

Meanwhile, the adjacent Beach House restaurant is open and good enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails with an oceanview.
The hotel also has a Jacuzzi and two heated pools. Wifi is free all over the hotel and the beach. Upon arrival, guests also get an ’Edge Card’ which offers VIP privileges and discounts at local restaurants and businesses in Laguna Beach.

We stayed Pacific Edge recently and really loved the vibe. The bright colors really help set the mood for fun and being on the water is awesome as well. It’s also nice that they have lots of different kinds of guestrooms (http://www.pacificedgehotel.com/orange-county-guestrooms.aspx) so you can try something different each time.
