The quacks at The Peabody Orlando are looking for a new Duck Master to handle their five mallard ducks and conduct the twice daily March of the Peabody Ducks through the hotel lobby.
Every day, at 11 am sharp, The Peabody Ducks descend down in a special elevator from their $100,000 penthouse Royal Duck Palace, accompanied by you – their crimson-and-gold- braid-jacketed Duck Master.
You’ll take up positions on the red carpet and begin the waddle in formation through the hotel’s marble halls, all the way to the orchid-crowned fountain in the Atrium Lobby. At 5 pm you reverse the routine and make your way back to the Duck Palace.
This extremely curious spectacle began at The Peabody Memphis in 1932, and has been the norm at the Peabody Orlando every single day since the hotel opened its doors on Nov 1, 1986. Other than upholding this fine tradition, you’ll also be responsible for maintaining the health, diet, rotation and living quarters for the five mallard ducks.
You’ll also be required to take the ducks to schools and give presentations about wildlife, ducks, and the environment. You’ll be doing media interviews and hotel tours. In short, you’ll be one famous Duck Master.
The only real qualification required is a Florida drivers license, but Alan Villaverde, head quack aka managing director of The Peabody Orlando, says they’re looking for “a captivating and talented individual with a love for animals and passion for working with people.”
The Peabody Orlando with 891 luxury guest rooms is located right across the street from the Orange County Convention Center’s main entrance, and is something of a palace from the inside, what with all the priceless art and artifacts, the soaring marble halls and the waterfalls.
Additional amenities include the Peabody Club which occupies the top 3 floors, a heated pool and four tennis courts, not to mention three restaurants including Capriccio Grill, an Italian Steakhouse and the retro 24-hour B-Line Diner which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The chosen Duck Master will be trained for the job so as to be ready in time for the grand September relaunch of The Peabody Orlando which comes after a $450 million expansion.
