St. Patrick’s Day in New York is kind of a big deal. The parade down 5th Avenue (from 44th to 86th Streets) that takes it past the landmark St. Patrick’s Cathedral is an ancient tradition that dates back to 1766.
Needless to say, getting a good hotel in the vicinity makes it much easier to turn out in the morning and walk over to St. Patrick’s Cathedral or get a good viewing spot along the route like on the steps of the MET Museum.
Here’s a list of hotels nearest the Cathedral, and a room in one of these hotels will make those without a place to stay nearby go green with envy.. If that is, their faces aren’t already painted green.
The New York Palace: Distance to St. Patrick’s Cathedral – 272 feet. Hard to get a better location than this, and many of the 899 guest rooms and suites offer stunning views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the surrounding cityscape.
Omni Berkshire Place: One block from the Cathedral, this hotel has 396 guest rooms and suites with wall mounted flat panel HDTV, mahogany furnishings, marble bathrooms and a well stocked bar in-room. A complimentary NY Times and USA Today are delivered daily to each room.
The Jewel: This hotel opposite Rockefeller Center is 0.5 miles from the Cathedral, and even closer for a quick stroll. Most rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass walls and some have views of St. Patrick’s, Rockefeller Plaza, and Rockefeller Center.
Club Quarters: Also opposite Rockefeller Center is Club Quarters. Actually, there are two Club Quarters here near each other, one on 25 West 51st Street and another one on 40 West 45th Street. The affordable accommodation choices include hotel guest rooms for the day, and other options for overnight and extended stays.
There are many many more hotels nearby, depending on your preferences, including The Benjamin Hotel, Waldorf Astoria, The Muse and Hotel Elysee.
