Bizarre Hotel Amenities

Teach your dog how to surf on vacation!

I came across this article on ABCNews.com the other day written by Jeryl Brunner, and some of the information regarding weird hotel amenities made me laugh. Dog surfing? Really? Ok, ok. I have two dogs, and I might actually try that one out.

I can’t take credit for any of the info below, but I wanted to share it with you all. Hope you enjoyed learning about this stuff as much as I did. I think the common theme here is that in this economy, hotels are struggling more than ever, and it’s imperative that they come up with creative ways to keep old guests and attract new ones. Emphasis on the word creative. Here are three of my favorites from the list.

Consider A Private Island In The Bahamas For Your Next Reunion

Little Whale Cay in the Bahamas

Little Whale Cay in the Bahamas

The PR company said: “Do the private island math.”

I didn’t have to, they did:

“The price is surprisingly affordable at $9,500 per day for up to 12 with a minimum of 5 nights. That is $3750 per person for a five night vacation on a private island INCLUDING accommodations, food, drinks (including spirits and house wines), and the use of all island facilities, boats, fuel, telephone calls and WiFi Internet connection in each guest house. Now, if the group should book a hotel for 12 people for 5 nights, they would get rooms, not an island, for maybe $300 or $400 per day not including food, certainly not spirits, or sports, or boating. The $3750 would not go very far. There would be extras on top of extras and very little control of cost.

“Little Whale Cay is truly a discovery for friends and families. There are few resorts, never mind private islands that offer luxury and privacy for such a price.”

Add to that the 15% mark up to compensate for tax and gratuity, and this particular vacation is a stitch out of my price range.  I like to keep the price per person under $1500 for an all inclusive, but the ones we can afford come with many many other people in the buffet line, drunk swingers propositioning my husband on the beach (yes, really) and a lot of peeing in the pool.  You know, blogworthy situations.

As they say, you get what you pay for.

Little Whale Cay certainly would be worth the money if you and 11 of your favorite people went.  At $3850+ per person for the week, the value is certainly there if what you want is pristine beaches, a high level of service (homemade rum raisin ice cream, y’all!) and complete privacy.  It truly looks like an ideal luxurious vacation for someone who is not a fan of the masses.

A girl can dream!
