Ski Resort Offers To Carry Your Bags – From Home

Inn at Lost Creek

Wouldn’t it be great if you could go on vacation without having to deal with the hassle of luggage?  An upscale ski resort and hotel in Telluride, Colorado has come one step closer to making that fantasy a reality with a creative new amenity.

The Inn at Lost Creek, which markets itself as “the little hotel with large amenities”, is offering to handle at least part of the luggage hassle for guests who book the Simply-Ski package.  Although you’ll still need to pack and unpack your own luggage, the Inn at Lost Creek will do the rest of the heavy lifting for you – literally.

The Simply-Ski package for the 2010/2011 ski season includes:

  • Four nights ski-in/ski out accommodation
  • Up to two free ski rental equipment packages per room/per night
  • Daily continental breakfast
  • Advance luggage pick-up and delivery between the guest’s home address and hotel for up to two bags
  • $75 in groceries pre-ordered and stocked for the guest’s arrival

The hotel will also provide ground transportation from the Telluride Airport or wash your car before you head home.

Nightly rates for the Simply-Ski package start at $357 per room during the early season.  The package is being offered from November 25, 2010 to April 4, 2011.  No word on who will be responsible for tackling the laundry mountain once you’ve returned home.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs: 5 Star Luxury for Less Than Expected

I’ve been asking around Twitter for my friends’ favorite hotels they’ve ever stayed in, and I have a nice variety of hotels from which to choose. I saw The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, come up as a suggestion, and just by the name, I knew it was going to be fancy.

I didn’t think it would be jaw-droppingly amazing. Breath-taking. Dream vacation-making. Five star everything.

Postmaster at the St. Regis Aspen

The US Postal Service is being grilled for letting a postmaster stay at the posh St. Regis in Aspen. Not just a stay, but an extended stay.

St. Regis Aspen

St. Regis Aspen

Extended or not, people have a right to know why a Postmaster is staying in a 5-star hotel when the USPS is on its way to racking up losses worth $238 billion by 2020.

It’s a long story, but the short version is that Aspen’s previous Postmaster abandoned his winter wonderland and took off to enjoy the warm beaches and glorious sunshine in Hawaii.

Interim postmasters don’t get their own place, so the new temp has to stay at a hotel. This temp is the current postmaster of Edwards, CO, who is angling to be named as the next permanent postmaster for Aspen. Edwards is a 75 mile drive from Aspen.

So the current postmaster of Edwards and the interim postmaster for Aspen who wants to be the permanent postmaster of Aspen, does not have his own place in Aspen, cannot commute from Edwards, and has to stay in a hotel.

That really was the short version. But wait, there’s more.. confusion over which hotel he should be staying at. The usual choice is apparently The Hotel Jerome, which offers rooms at $125 per night. But they’re doing spring cleaning. So our intrepid postmaster ended up at the 5-star St. Regis, where he’s getting a special rate of $175 per night.

Given that the average rate at the St. Regis Aspen is $289 and the cheapest room clocks in at $239, that doesn’t sound too shabby. Besides, look at everything our postmaster gets to use – location at the base of Aspen Mountain, accomodations with a flat-screen television, Bose Wave CD/Radio and a fireplace.

There’s the 15,000 sq ft Remède Spa, plus a 24 hour fitness center, business center and exclusive access to the private Ironbridge Golf Club. Dining options include the Shadow Mountain Lounge with live jazz or piano and views of Aspen Mountain. There’s also The Restaurant at The St. Regis Aspen, and a pool lounge.

And don’t forget the St. Regis Butler Service. It’s probably better to be an interim postmaster living it up at the St. Regis than a permanent one with a home in Aspen.
