I know the hotel industry is expecting 2011 to be a good year, but I’m still surprised to see how much expansion is taking place in luxury accommodations. Maybe there’s something to this “economic recovery” talk after all.

I’ve always been a hotellie (like a foodie, but for hotels. I totally just made that word up). I love staying at hotels, learning about hotels, browsing luxury hotels online that I could never ever afford to stay in. When my husband and I were in New York a few years ago for a conference, we had the opportunity to stay one night in the city. For one night, I wanted to stay in the pinnacle of hotels: The Waldorf=Astoria.
I booked our one-night’s stay in a small, “affordable” room for about $360. That’s a lot of money for us, but it has always been my dream to stay at the famed hotel. We knew as we entered the hotel that we were in for a treat beyond treats when they knew our name and assisted us like every other guest.
