Sand Dollar Fourth Night Free at CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta

Sit back and relax at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta

Get a jump on the action of the XVI Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011 this October—especially the events hosted on Mexico’s coast. The beachside town of Puerto Vallarta will be the host site for four events: sailing, triathlon, beach volleyball and open water aquatics.

The CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa has a special deal to make your Pan American Games festivities—or any celebration, for that matter—much easier on your wallet. The hotel’s “San Dollar Fourth Night Free” promotion offers accommodations in a deluxe garden view room, daily breakfast buffet for two and a fourth night for free.

While not attending the Pan American Games or discovering Puerto Vallarta, take part in the Secretos de la Familia program, offering an insider’s view of local culture and traditions. Choose from: culinary lessons, marine life education, language exploration and tequila tasting (my fave). The resort grows its own agave and has a proprietary tequila brand.

To reserve, book from now until Nov. 23, 2011. Rates start from $129 per night. Reserve online, or call 800-PARADISE (727-2347), and use promotional code S29.

Warm Up for Winter at CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta

Escape winter at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta

Maybe winter is your favorite season: lots of snow, festive holidays, cold weather… did I mention snow? Or perhaps, winter is your nemesis and you can’t wait to get out of Dodge for a warm-weather vacation in early 2011. Either way, it’s hard to ignore a trip to Mexico and the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa.

The hotel’s “Baby, it’s Cold Outside” promotion offers up to 40 percent off winter rates, with rates starting as low as $104 per night (not including taxes). The money you save can be well spent in the Ohtli Spa. I had the most incredible massage, the Fire Opal Balancing Stone Therapy, when I was there last year.

Not into spas? Take part in the Secretos de la Familia program, offering an insider’s view of local culture and traditions. Choose from: culinary lessons, marine life education, language exploration and tequila tasting (my fave). The resort grows its own agave and has a proprietary tequila brand.

To reserve, book from now until Nov. 30 for stays from Jan. 1 to April 30, 2011. Reserve online, or call 888-727-2347, and use promotional code LLF.

Absolute Heaven at CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

It’s often difficult to finally be able to unwind after traveling: all those airport lines, cramped seating on the airplane and long cab rides. If you’re staying at the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa on your Puerto Vallarta vacation, it’s like being in the express lane to relaxation.

The CasaMagna is conveniently situated on the beach (with a luxurious family pool for loungers), near golf courses and within an easy walk to shops and restaurants in Marina Vallarta. The hotel’s 404 luxury guest rooms and 29 suites (rates range from $249 to $538) include either a private balcony or terrace. Mine looked out over the garden with a view of the pool and the ocean—and a beautiful sunset over Banderas Bay.

The hotel’s restaurant, La Estancia, offers authentic Mexican regional cuisine with a blend of the contemporary and traditional. The breakfast buffet has a wide array of choices, so take a deep breath before you plunge in. For dinner, be sure to ask for a sample of the hotel’s private-label tequila—its production is overseen by the CasaMagna’s own tequila sommelier.

What to do if you’ve had your fill of sand and sun for the day? The newly built Ohtli Spa is 22,000 square feet of luxury. Choose from a menu that includes Swedish to Thai massages, facials, wraps and even a Fire Opal Balancing Stone Therapy (which is what I chose) that involves Mexican fire opals in a hot stone massage. Absolute heaven.
