San Francisco Bay Area Hotels Near The Water

When you’re traveling to a city like San Francisco, the best place to get tips about where to stay and what to do is from the locals.  Of course, if you’re a local, you want to keep up with what’s going on in town, too.  Head on over to the  UpTake San Francisco – Local Getaway Crew Facebook page and give them a “thumbs up” to get the inside scoop from San Francisco residents who love sharing their city.  Today, Crew Leader Jill Robinson posted three great San Francisco hotels for people who want to stay near the water:

In the San Francisco Bay Area, it’s easier than some other places to get a hotel near the water. But do you want just any hotel? Here are three sweet spots: two with great views of the bay and one only a stone’s throw from the mighty Pacific.

1. Cavallo Point

At the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, Cavallo Point is within the 75,000 acres of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Choose between a restored guestroom from historic Fort Baker, or a contemporary room on the hillside. And bring your best canine friend, because many of the rooms are dog friendly.

2. Hotel Vitale

This luxury hotel is perched along San Francisco’s Embarcadero, within easy walking distance of the Ferry Building Marketplace. While rooms offer bay and city views, my favorite spot is on the rooftop in one of the hotel spa’s soaking tubs.

3. Oceano Hotel & Spa

In Half Moon Bay’s Pillar Point Harbor, the Oceano Hotel & Spa is the perfect home base for coastal exploration. Whether you’re visiting to see the winter swells at Mavericks, sample some tasty seafood dishes, or just to relax within a short distance of home—all are within easy reach.

San Francisco Airport Hotels – Best Hotels near SFO

If you’re touching down in the San Francisco Bay area and don’t have time to make it into the city, where do you stay that’s clean, affordable and convenient to the airport?

Clarion Hotel SFO

Clarion Hotel SFO

Here are our top picks:

At the high end is the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport, a hotel with a free shuttle to the airport or car rental agency and a business center open 24 hours a day, helpful for checking your email or printing boarding passes. A check of rates in January showed a night’s stay starting at $179.

In the mid-range, chose the Clarion Hotel San Francisco Airport. This pet-friendly hotel offers parking (for a fee) and a basic exercise room as well as the standard airport shuttle. In January, rooms go for around $100 per night.

If your company isn’t footing the bill, try the Travelodge San Francisco Airport South, which was awarded Travelodge’s top awards for property of the year and best customer experience. Accommodations are basic but decent, with a free airport shuttle and continental breakfast starting at 6 a.m. But ditch the hotel for dinner–it’s located near some of the Bay Area’s best Chinese food, a quick walk up Broadway in the town of Millbrae. A check of January’s rates shows a stay will set you back a mere $75 per night.
