Starwood, the parent company of W Hotels, gets high marks from travel agents
Vacation Agent, a trade magazine for travel agencies, recently released the results of a reader survey that asked travel agents to share their favorites in everything from rental cars to hotels. The survey was sent to the more 100,000 travel agents, including 18,000 home-based agents. The agents were asked to write in their picks as opposed to choosing from a list of suggested brands.
The end result is a list of hotel chains across the world that, at the very least, have made a positive impression on a lot of travel agents. If you’re trying to decide which rewards program to sign up for and rack up points with, this list might provide a good starting place.

Overlooking the world below is one of life’s luxuries. Staying in one of the top 6 tallest hotel rooms* in the world can be defined as pure luxury. This list could also be titled “Top 5 Tallest Hotel Rooms in Dubai except for that first one in Saudi Arabia (because that one is ginormous) so I had to make it Top 6 Hotel Suites to make room for a non-Middle East country”.

#1 Abraj Al Bait Towers (opening mid-2010)
Mecca (Mekkah), Saudi Arabia
Height: 1,952 ft – 76 stories
Reservations: not accepted at this time
(note: Unless you’re a devout Muslim and can pretty much prove you are, you’re not getting into Mecca. As cool as this place would be to see in person, many people will never get the chance as only Muslims are allowed in the city of Mekkah.)

- I caught this shot on the dock behind the Lake Brentwood Motel in Avon Park, Florida. The motel is listed in the travel book “Hidden Florida – the Adventures Guide.” Serene, beautiful, and boats are free to all customers.
