Say ‘I Do’ To These Royal Wedding Hotel Packages

On Friday, April 29, 2011, HRH Price William gets married to Miss Catherine (Kate) Middleton in what promises to be the Royal Wedding of the century. Of course, not everyone can manage to be at Westminster Abbey for said Royal Wedding, or in London or the U.K., for that matter.

For those who want to be present at the wedding without having to go all the way to London, there are luxury hotels in New York, Washington D.C. and Victoria, BC that are offering everything from a Royal Breakfast to a complete Royal Wedding experience and even expensive jewelry and an entire Royal Month.

The Palace Hotel, New York: Say ‘I Do’ to the Royal Wedding Sunrise Breakfast in the Drawing Room at The New York Palace on April 29, 2011.

Includes a three-night stay in a penthouse-level suite, chauffeured luxury car from the airport and use of the Chatwal town car for a private shopping experience, among other things.

For those who want to do this at a not-so-royal level, a similar package is available at more earthly prices, but with no jewelry and a stay in a junior suite for two. For more information, call (212) 764-6200.

Waldorf=Astoria, New York: Two packages are available in April in the hotel’s Royal Suite, former residence of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Bakersfield Hotel Turns Away Newlyweds For Being Too Young

The upscale Padre Hotel in Bakersfield, CA finds itself in a big mess after turning away 18 yr old Hillary Martin and her newly minted husband Jason Martin on their wedding night for being too young.

The worst part? The couple had a confirmed reservation, the bride was wearing her wedding dress and the groom was in his U.S. Marine Corps outfit.

They left the hotel in tears, hoping to find another hotel late on Friday night where a married couple wouldn’t be too young to stay in a hotel.

The hotel’s decision to turn them away seems all the more harsh because they didn’t say anything when the room was reserved or when Hillary herself dropped in early morning on the wedding day to ask if the hotel could give them the room a bit early.

Now the hotel is backtracking fast, and they have even invited the couple to stay at the hotel – for free. The hotel’s owner Brett Miller issued a statement which says employees followed the hotel policy, and found that both bride & groom were under age 21.

The hotel’s website does have a notice which says that “Guests of the hotel are required to be 21 years of age, unless accompanied by an adult.”

So it appears that the hotel is not legally at fault here. But that doesn’t change the fact that a man old enough to join the military who was wearing his blues wasn’t able to rent a hotel room for his honeymoon, when accompanied by his bride in full wedding dress.

The hotel seems to understand that it screwed up and is going to get crucified in the media. Miller added that an exception should have been made for this special occasion, and that he is “ashamed and deeply saddened by the events that occurred.”

It’s ironic too that the hotel offers itself as wedding venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers and even bachelor and bachelorette parties. They even have honeymoon suites and professional staff to help couples customize a wedding package deal.
