We booked this hotel on the advice of a friend who had friends who had stayed there. I should have read about it on Trip Advisor first. My review is exactly like mc-miami's, so similar it is scary. 2.0: very disappointed

The LaPlaya is priced for its location, a few blocks from the sea, BUT, way overpriced for the quality of accomodations. The casitas are old. I do believe I could hear critters in the walls. This place is a "jewel". The staff were truly amazing, before even checking in they took us to our room to see if it was suitable for us then they escorted back to the front desk to a gentleman who asked us if we would still like to stay here. We fell in love with the Monterey Carmel area and will plan another trip but will definitely stay away from La Playa hotel. To start this hotel is 4 stories high and has no elevator so you have to take all your luggage up and down (I happened to be on the 4th floor).
