A weird visit!

After working hard for a year and a half, I put the money away for a two day stay at the Jamestown Hotel. I love Historic Hotels, especially those with a ghost! I invited one of my friends and we arrived on May 5th. I wanted to attend the Fireman's Muster in Columbia. this was rather boring. We arrived about 12 pm, but of course we were not allowed to check in at that time. On our arrival we discovered that the restaurant AND bar were closed. Also the lounge. Well, we're good sports and always ready for an adventure. Right off, I wanted to soak in the tub, but had to go back downstairs to ask the young girl where was the plug for the tub. She called her mom and they fineally found one. My friend went out onto the balcony while I soaked. When I got out there, I was disapointed to see that the pillows on the wicker furniture were ... The Most Inhospitable Place on Earth

We booked a room at the Jamestown Inn, right on the main drag in jamestown. Prior to the trip, I cancelled our stay with them and instead booked at the Sonora Oaks Best Western in consideration of my husband, who preferred a "real hotel" rather than a hit-or-miss B&B. They sent me a curt email informing me that they were charging my credt card a $25. "cancellation fee" and reminding me that I was "well aware of this policy and agreed to it". ... Excellent vibes

We've just returned from a two night stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (one adult and two kids). We found the staff to be extremely friendly, accomodating, and entertaining - my son learned a new magic trick and lots about the resident ghost (he swears he saw her while video taping in the hall in the morning, but I think it was just his imagination). The restaurant was terrific ... GD2004, a user of Tripadvisor. Read full review on tripadvisor
