Named in 1602 by a Spanish explorer named
Vizcaino, Monterey did not become part of Spanish territory until 1770 when it
was founded as an administrative and military base for the territory. It was
during the 19th century that the United States took over the area
during the Gold Rush. However, Monterey became something like a backwater
during this period because it was hardly affected by the waves of population
during the Gold Rush.
Aside from its undeniably interesting history
though, Monterey has more to offer any interested traveler. For example, the
Larkin House in Jefferson Street is a notable structure because it gives people
a glimpse of what life was in Monterey during the past. Architecture in the
Stevenson House is another notable attraction because it is filled with
memorabilia and other interesting items as well.
However, one thing you should not miss in
Monterey is its enjoyable outdoor recreational activities. Its proximity to
various lakes and parks makes this area perfect to spend a rejuvenating time
with your loved one. The bike path that runs along to Pacific Grove is a good
place to visit because you can run for miles with your partner here.
Of course, your trip would not be complete
without staying at beautiful and luxurious Monterey Romantic Resorts. We
recommend the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa because of its stunning European
architecture and coastal views. Its location along the Cannery Row also makes
this Monterey Romantic lodging a favorite place for couples.
Monterey has a long history of unique and fascinating
romantic hotels. Start with the Old
Monterey Inn. This place has a fireplace,
extra soft down beds with extra Murphy beds in some of the rooms and an
old-fashioned elevator that you have to close the grate on and uses an elevator
operator. Talk about a romantic
atmosphere. Many of Monterey’s boutique hotels and local bed and
breakfasts offer all the charm and personality of a family run hotel with the efficiency
and amenities of a major chain. From
internet access to rose petals on the bed, no matter what is important to you during
your time away, Monterey’s
romantic hotels can meet your requirements.
Consider getting a room in one of the hotels in Old Town Monterey so
that you can walk to Fisherman’s Warf and take the short tram to Cannery Row
where you can find many more romantic things to do.
