For a quiet Family Vacation, Meeker, Colorado is a tiny town in the northwest quadrant of Colorado, with just over 2000 residents as of the last major census. The town’s name originates from an incident where local Ute Indians took revenge on their local “Indian Agent,” Nathaniel Meeker, during the famous 1879 Meeker Massacre. We enjoyed our stay in the Sleepy Cat Guest Ranch, approximately 17 miles west of Meeker, Colorado. The modern, rustic cabins are built with magnificent hand-hewn logs, comfortable beds, and full kitchen facilities. Romantic Couples should ask for the honeymoon cabin and the extra-large cabins accommodate 8-12 lodgers. Sleepy Cat Guest Ranch is kid-friendly and pet-friendly (although barking, aggressive dogs are not permitted.)
Families traveling on a budget should consider The Rustic Lodge in Meeker. The cabins feature clean, comfortable beds and you’ll be impressed with their wallet-friendly rates. You’ll love the log bunk beds and full-queen sized mattresses. The cabins contain sitting areas with dining table and mini-kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Be sure to book the Meeker Hotel & Café for upscale digs. We were exceptionally impressed with the beautifully decorated suites in this century-old hotel, with its economy wing/shared bathroom for budget-minded travelers. Travel Guides list The Meeker Hotel & Café on the national register of historic places.
