Rent only #2 or #3, others not worth it

My family stayed in cottage #5 in July. While the setting is lovely on the North Shore, with a quiet beach and laid back feel, the cottages vary widely in terms of privacy and ocean view. Cottages #2 and #3 are beautifully situated right off the beach with porches and sliding glass doors facing the ocean. The other cottages are behind these two and are very close to eachother. Can't wait to be back next summer!

We just returned from our 4th trip to Kauai, and our 1st stay at the North shore of the island. We found the Hale Makai Cottages on the internet as we were looking for a place in or around Hanalei. At some point my parents and my sister with her family decided to join us. The staff at the Hale Makai Cottages was very helpful and attentive with all our booking needs and we were able to book Cottage 2, 4 and 5. The website could not prepare us for the unbelievable beauty of this place. The property is tucked away in a truly residential area. Hale Makai: Hidden gem that's rough around the edges

For a first-time traveler to Hawaii, the experience on the island was nothing short of breathtaking. Hale Makai is a true gem tucked away on the North Shore. It can be daunting getting there, as you have to cross SEVEN one-lane bridges and the mountain highway is a little frightening at times, especially at night--but the views are stunning! We stayed in Cottage 3, which had one of the best views of the ocean. Just steps off the lanai is a picturesque hammock and the beach. However, I wouldn't recommend doing anything more than strolling and combing on this beach. Just returned from 12 days in Hawaii. We arrived at Hale Makai after staying at the Marriott Waiohai in Poipu. For our family of 5, we had cottage #2 which is a two bedroom, 1 bath right at the waters edge. We did get an aerobed for one of our boys.
