Where Royalty would stay @ Waikiki

Royal Hawaiian Hotel Tower, Oceanfront about center height, centered from sides overlooking (from East/Diamondhead to West/Hilton/airport) Diamondhead, Duke's Canoe Club Patio, Outrigger Hotel pool/whirlpool/beach, RHH pool & beach, restaurant ... and of course, Royal Coconut Palm grove (planted for Hawaiian Royalty to serve as their beach umbrellas when they played here), Waikiki sands, surfers, outriggers, catamarans, distant jets returning home, occasional helicopter tours ... all with the relaxing, intoxicating surf sounds (and none of the sounds of reality left at home). Sure, even this discounted daily room rate is what we used to pay monthly on our mortgage when married 25 years prior, but one could simply live on this fabulous balcony, make short hikes to neighboring dining experiences and beach/pool playthings, be pampered by this hotel & staff, return home and be totally satisfied your money was better spent than possibly on any other beach vacation prior. It has been perhaps 40 years since we've been this relaxed ... after a few days unwinding from reality, long (but wonderful 1st class Continental flight) that resulted in a 23 hour day (ugh). RHH includes a shuttle in their airport to hotel transportation suggestions. Avoid having to drag your bags across two lanes of airport traffic, only to wait like a kid after school. Even with 3 bags each, we found a large taxi was a) faster, b) more private, c) friendlier, d) always curbside, e) found us an immediate bellhop/redcap and get this ... f) cheaper! RHH bellhop staff was always helpful, friendly and would get you what you wanted. However, taxi protocol (aka "whose turn is it next?") sometimes overwhelms you direct command to order the larger taxi for your bags/clubs ... so you will simply need to monitor what happens next, insisting on what you want (so the RHH bellhops don't look bad), otherwise a small taxi next in line will attempt to crush your bags/souvenirs unsuccessfully into a sardine can. If your large taxi gets questioned by another taximan in the Sheraton Waikiki traffic circle, feel free to interrupt his interrogation (~why ... Sunfish49, a user of Tripadvisor.
