We really enjoyed the warm, and laid-back atmosphere of Waimea Plantation Cottages. We stayed in the oceanfront "Director's Cottage," which I though was worth the extra cost because of its privacy (spaced further a part from the standard priced cottages) and proximity to the sound of the waves crashing.
