Bethel, Maine is
located just inside the Maine-New Hampshire border some 70 miles due North of
Portland. Bethel, Maine’s history
dates back to the 1700’s, when land grants were awarded to heroes from the
Battle of Quebec. The families of
these heroes became the founding fathers of this amazing town tucked away in
the mountains of Oxford County which has been recognized by Ski Magazine as
“The Greatest Ski Town in the Universe.”
Today, still deeply rooted in its history, Bethel, Maine keeps that
history alive through its historical
society. Recreational
activities are in abundance no matter the season in Bethel, Maine. Anything from antiquing to walking
through the snow with snow shoes, Bethel, Maine has character plus. Bethel, Maine’s most recent claim to
fame is the construction of the world largest snowman and snowwoman at the
heights of 113 and 122 feet respectively.
When staying in Bethel, Maine, lodging is sprinkled in every corner with
traditional inns and bed and breakfasts like The
Sandbury Inn. The Sandbury
boasts an inviting décor, complimentary breakfast and even has its own pub and
restaurant for travelers and the public.
The
Victorian Inn lives up to its name offering spacious and beautiful rooms,
wonderful food and the owner Stacey makes you feel at home and goes above and
beyond for her guests. The
Bethel Inn and Country Club still gives you the inn feel in a resort
setting. Their rooms include a
kitchenette and all the amenities you would except of a resort along with golf,
tennis, swimming and a health club.
