The town of Ogunquit is a relatively new town because it was
incorporated only in 1980 but its name has Indian origins and the area occupied
by the town is considered as one of Maine’s oldest destinations. With the
fascinating fusion of the old and the new, the Ogunquit may just be the next
major destination for romantic getaways. For example, to prevent private
companies to monopolize the 3.5-mile Ogunquit Beach and keep it accessible to
the locals, the town has declared the area as a public park. But to preserve
the beauty of the powdery white-sand and keep the area uncluttered, the beach
can be accessed only from three points: the Main Beach through Beach Street,
the Footbridge Beach via the arched pedestrian bridge from Ocean Street, and
the North Beach through Bourne Avenue.
Thus, to find Ogunquit romantic hotels and other
accommodations, these three points are the best areas to stay during the
romantic getaway. Besides the beach, the Ogunquit has other tourist sites for
romantic getaways. One is the Ogunquit
Heritage Museum that was originally the house of the 18th-century sea
captain James Winn. In this museum, the couple will be enthralled by the
romance of maritime history. Another place to visit is the Perkins Cove
where art galleries and fine restaurants are found. From the Cove, the couple
can proceed to the famous Marginal
Way, a paved 1.25-mile footpath that was given by Josiah Chase of York to
the Town of Ogunquit. A walk through the Marginal Way can be the most romantic
moment of the couple’s vacation.
