Nightlife
The town of Old Orchard Beach is a great destination for family vacations because it is reputed to be the State of Maine’s “premier family beach resort.” The long stretch of beach, the entertainment centers, and the kid friendly lodgings are just a few of the reasons why Old Orchard Beach is chosen by many travelers. This town offers a wide variety of accommodations from luxurious Old Orchard Beach family hotels to charming Old Orchard Beach family bed and breakfasts. However, many travelers with families in tow prefer to stay in cabins, cottages and houses so that they can have privacy, flexibility, and independence. From these strategically located accommodations, the family will have easy access to major entertainment centers such as the Palace Playland and the Funtown Splashtown USA.
The former is a beachfront amusement park while the latter actually consists of two parks: the Funtown and the Splashtown. The former is an amusement theme park that features the Excalibur. It is not the mythical sword of King Arthur. It is the legendary wooden roller coaster that was ranked as one of the World’s top ten rides. The other exciting rides in Funtown include a huge vertical ride called the Dragon’s Descent and the tallest log flume ride called Thunder Falls. The whole family can also enjoy the Balloon Race, the Antique Cars, and the Barney Oldfield Roadsters. The Splashtown, on the other hand, is a water park that has numerous slides and Play Areas. If the family vacations happen to be in August, the family can join the annual Fun Run.
