Hagerstown was founded by Jonathan Hager in 1762. Through
hard work and a strong sense of cooperation among the settlers, Hagerstown
evolved into a modern city that offers diverse recreations that will appeal to
every type of goal of family vacations. However, the primary family vacation goal
that is satisfyingly fulfilled in Hagerstown is that of rediscovering amazing American
history. Thus, when travelers decide to have Hagerstown vacations and book into
one of the Hagerstown family hotels, they will know that the doors to the past
are slightly opened.
Some of the places to see are the various bridges. The 18th-
and 19th-century limestone arch bridges that are sometimes built along arch
aqueducts can be the most amazing things to see for the history buffs. An
intensive list of such historical stone structures can be found at the Bridges of Washington County
Maryland. Another place to visit is the Hagerstown
Railroad Museum City Park, where the progress of the city can be traced
back to 1912 when the Baldwin Locomotive Works built the Engine 202. Today, it
is the only Western Maryland steam locomotive that exists. The family may also
want to visit the Hagerstown
Aviation Museum to trace the 75 years of amazing aviation development. The
kids will enjoy the interactive displays and the walk-through exhibits.
