At the west end of the string of cottages is the absolute best big beach (on Lake Michigan) in the country--better than the remote Nauset Beach on the Cape, and that is saying a lot!! more on Yahoo! Travel

OK, not so cheap anymore...but, because it is locked into the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy, it will also never become a big fancy condo resort with amenities like air conditioning and people flashing credit cards. more on Yahoo! Travel
