Located in the southwestern part of
Mississippi, Natchez is a historic town that is located high above the
Mississippi River. It was an incredibly wealthy city just before the Civil War
and remnants of its past is still evident to this date. Some of the attractions
you should not miss include the Natchez Pilgrimage, the Historic Natchez
Pageant, and the antebellum houses. It is interesting to note that Natchez is
particularly famous for its antebellum houses most notably the Longwood,
Melrose, Magnolia Hall, Monmouth Rosalie, Auburn, and Stanton Hall among
others.
However, probably the most famous antebellum
house is Longwood because it is the largest octagonal structure in the country.
It's constructed started in 1860 but when the Civil War broke out a year later,
the construction was not finished; in fact, the upper floors of this house
remain unfinished even today.
If you decide to visit Natchez, make sure to
stay at one of the beautiful Natchez
Family hotels in the area. We recommend the Natchez Eola Hotel because it
offers Southern charm with the luxury of modern living. Meanwhile, plantation
houses also offer beautiful Natchez Family lodging; in particular, the Dunleith
Plantation and the Monmouth Plantation are great places you should visit to
experience the Southern grandeur.
