Incredible experience!
My husband and I are not backpackers, but we had an incredible experience at Granite Park, which is basically a backpackers hostel (no electricity, no running water, outhouse, no food except candy bars and freeze dried meals for purchase). I like everything about ... MrsTaco, a user of Tripadvisor. Read full review on tripadvisor

Beautiful setting, great people, rustic accomodations
A friend and I stayed at the historic Granite Chalet for two nights in August, 2007. We had a wonderful time. We booked through the Granite Chalet concessionaire, which you can find online. For two nights, we ended up paying in excess of $300, which included linen service (sheets and blankets, with one pillow each - you could exclude this $15/daily service and pack in your own sleeping back and linens) and some dehydrated meals. You can order food in advance to ensure that it is there for you. We did this (2 dehydrated dinners, 2 jiffy pops, and 6 large bottles of water cost about $54), and were happy with that choice. I believe the room itself cost about $70/person/night. The Chalet requires payment in advance. Reservations are essential, and must be made (way) in advance. The Chalet is typically booked throughout the season. The accomodations are quite spartan. There is no electricity or running water at the Chalet. Water (which is disinfected, but they still recommend boiling or additional disinfection) is hauled from about 1/4 mile away - they ask guests to assist with this chore (which we happily did). There are apparently frequent bear sitings on the walk to get water. The only toilet is a "composting" one. The Chalet consists of an "annex" (where we stayed), and the main Chalet. The main Chalet appears to be the more sought-after accomodations ... tarapup, a user of Tripadvisor. Read full review on tripadvisor

Granite Park Chalet it awesome!
My husband and I made a last minute trip to Glacier in late July/early August. We spent most of our time camping at Sprague Creek campground in Glacier near Lake McDonald (very nice; small campground; tent-only) but decided to splurge on a last minute room at the Granite Park Chalet (we believe we got a cancellation). We also had the chance to take a room at Sperry Chalet but chose Granite because ... Biblia, a user of Tripadvisor. Read full review on tripadvisor

A Religious Experience ...
As backcountry primitive lodging options go, Granite Park Chalet simply cannot be topped. Breathtaking scenery. Hiker comaraderie. Beautifully simple amenities. Competent and very gracious hosts. Silence! Take the achingly beautiful highline trail from Logan Pass to the chalet. Yes, it's vertigo heaven, but never ... WMD_Traveller, a user of Tripadvisor. Read full review on tripadvisor
