I had the impression that this hotel had once or recently been a rather run-doen, run-of-the-mill place that was trying to upgrade but was in transition. more on Expedia

Hotel was in a great location, staff was very friendly, and the decor was much better than standard hotel. more on Yahoo! Travel

However, don't over look the hotel for this reason alone as it's quirky nature and friendly staff are reasons to give it a try as my family and I did. more on VirtualTourist
