Spartan but quiet and reasonably clean

I just returned from a week long stay at the Greenpoint YMCA beginning late October, 2007. I had stayed there a year earlier and after reading the two most recent posts on this forum, I was wondering if the place had gone downhill since last year's stay. My experience was different from those two posters. All the hallways have recently been painted and there is new carpeting on the third and fourth floors in the hallways. My economy room, room 428, had also recently been repainted and rewired (with three outlets). There was a new ceiling light that was strong enough to read by. Comfortable and clean

I spent six nights here in a de luxe room in early June 2007 and paid the weekly rate of $340 which included a $20 key deposit. The place looks old but appeared clean. Cleaners were about every morning and changed my towel and made the bed on about 4 of the days. The room had TV and air condition and was comfortable. Disgusting and depressing -- I left early
