Wow, but Whoops!
My wife and I are from Texas and we stayed here Oct 18-23, 2006 as I celebrated my 55th birthday. The first room we checked into was clean and tidy but reaked of cigarette smoke. This was not the fault of the hotel because there are many European people who stay here and have no regard for smoking in a non-smoking room. We called guest services and were immediatley given a new room (#2914).
As you are dropped off at the hotel, you'll enter on 52nd street and greeted by bellmen. In order to get to the lobby, you first take an elevator to the 7th floor. Sometimes this can be congested but it wasn't too bad. The main elevators in the lobby going all the way up to our room on the 29th floor ran fast and frequent. I was impressed.
