The Tamanaco in the upscale Mercedes neighboorrhood is still one of the best options if you are in Caracas for business or pleasure, even though the recent renovations cannot hide the fact that it is well over 50 years old. I haven't stayed here, but have been here dozens of times for social events. The hotel is luxiurious but a little older than some. It has a lot of history to it.
