4.0: Trying to be a four star in the lone star state

This was our first trip to San Antonio and my fiancé' and I decided we needed to get away for an extended weekend, something I've never done. The reason for specifically choosing this hotel was quality, price, and location. First, the price: normally the price would have been $219, but we were able to get a deal through San Antonio convention and visitors bureau website, dropping the price down to $169, and while still a little high was reasonable for the quality and location I was after. The location: right on the riverwalk along Houston Street. There is a fabulous restaurant next door, Acenar, which I highly recommend. As well as a restaurant, Citrus, which is inside the hotel, which serves great food at a slightly higher, but still reasonable price. There is no parking at the hotel, but you can self park a few blocks away for $7 or $8 a day or you can valet park for $27 a day. I consider the valet parking a rip since you can walk to most places and probably won't be driving all over town if your business is in the downtown area. We were able to walk to the Alamo in about 15 minutes and El Mercado in about 20 minutes. There is a riverwalk boat tour kiosk right at the hotel next door with the dock in-between the hotels. (For a riverwalk dinner tour, you must book weeks in advance, so keep that in mind while planning). The quality: A three star hotel trying, but not succeeding, to be a four star.
