There's nowhere else like it--Amazing!

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by escaping to the Thornewood Castle. It was tucked back in a gated community, invisible to the rest of the city. Just OK for the $$$$

Beautiful old castle - however, I'd suggest being certain there are NO weddings scheduled to take place during your stay (unless you're a guest of or in the wedding party)... We arranged a one-night visit on Saturday, May 28. Check-in was supposed to be at 4:00 -- we arrived a little early, just after 3:00 at the gate, buzzed and asked to be allowed to check-in a little early -- a little hesitation on their part, as apparently the wedding party would be there until 6:30 or 7:00 and there was little or no parking left. At $330 for a single night, I guess I would have appreciated knowing that ahead of time -- they did allow us to come on in and found a spot for us to park...When we first were shown to our room, the staff person was warm and friendly, and told us to feel free to wander the ... mholbrook, a user of Tripadvisor.
